When you get to the Make It Your Race 2012 website watch the short movie to get an idea of what Make It Your Race is all about, then, exit from the movie (click the x in the top right hand corner) and follow the instructions… If you are between 18 and 40 years old and are not a professional driver (i.e. you don&#8217;t have a competition motor racing license) you can complete the pre-registration form… it’s as simple as that!</p>
<p>Once selected you will be part of this thrilling driving experience AND be part of the Make It Your Race TV Talent Show which is being filmed this summer. There will be driving sessions and track days in Italy with expert driver tuition and coaching… great fun and a chance to improve your driving skills at the wheel of an Abarth. This is your chance to have the experience of a lifetime; so, if you have octane in your blood and are a real ‘petrol-head’… all you have to do is put your name forward for selection. Go ahead… Make It Your Race!</p>
<p>Make It Your Race started last year in Italy but has been opened to more European countries this year so there is the chance to test your driving skills and car control talents against drivers from Germany, France, Italy and Spain. <p>What&#8217;s on? There is everything for the Historic Racing competitor and enthusiast at this year&#8217;s show &#8211; Four Show Halls filled with displays of competition cars, motorcycles and around 400 exhibitors offering everything you need for the motorsport season. The Live Rally Action Experience brings live action up close as rallying legends take to the purpose built course &#8211; Saturday and Sunday only&#8230; and in the &#8216;Fire-up Paddock&#8217; you can see, hear and smell the historic motorcycles fire-up.</p>

<p>How to get there: Stoneleigh Park is located 1 mile/1.5 kilometres east of the A46 dual carriageway road between Junction 15 of the M40 and the A45 dual carriageway (Birmingham to Coventry, Rugby and the M1 Junction 17). The A46 to the north, links with Junction 2 of the M6, beyond Coventry. Stoneleigh Park is on the B4113 road between Leamington Spa and Coventry. However, visitors in cars will be routed on to the site by Event Signs, using the B4115 road, which runs parallel to the A46, between the A452 and the B4113, near Stoneleigh village.</p>
<p>Disabled Car Parking: A Specific car park has been designated for Disabled visitors who may use it free of charge subject to display of their blue disabled parking permits, access to this car park will be via the main show ground entrance from the B4113.</p>

Our condolences to his family, friends and all who knew him. Trivellato, a well respected Abarth tuner was one of the most important figures in Italian motorsport history although not widely recognised or acknowledged &#8211; he also &#8216;discovered&#8217; many drivers who reached Formula One having had his own racing team in the 60&#8242;s, 70&#8242;s and 80&#8242;s&#8230; Some of the drivers he influenced include: Andrea De Adamich, Riccardo Patrese, Elio De Angelis, Roberto Ravaglia, Gerhard Berger, Pier Luigi Martini and Luca Badoer.&#8217;Pino&#8217; was a driver in his own right, before turning to driver coaching and team management, racing in the ETCC during the 1960&#8242;s driving an Abarth on many occasions.</p>
<p><a href="http://abarthcarsuk.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Screen-Shot-2012-02-14-at-12.18.11.png"><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-2948" title="Jacopo 'Pino' Trivellato -  Abarth tuner and racer" src="http://abarthcarsuk.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Screen-Shot-2012-02-14-at-12.18.11-300x196.png" alt="Jacopo 'Pino' Trivellato -  Abarth tuner and racer" width="270" height="176" /></a>Some of his races include: 1961 at Monza co-driving with Leo Cella in a Fiat-Abarth 700 Zagato; 1966 again at Monza &#8211; 4 Ore di Jolly Club &#8211; Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, Italy, in an Abarth 1000 TC co-driving with Gianni Lado (&#8220;Matich&#8221;) and competing in fabled endurance racing events such as the Targa Florio, Brno and Nurburgring. In 1964 he competed in a number of events including hill climb which, in those &#8216;golden years of motorsport&#8217; featured in the World Championship &#8211; please see below some of the results from that year and note just how many Abarths are mentioned&#8230;  Abarth Porsche, Abarth Simca and, of course, Fiat Abarth and this doesn&#8217;t include the cars/teams that didn&#8217;t make it to the chequered flag!</p>

<p>There was only one Abarth 1500 Biposto manufactured, and after it was displayed at the 1952 Torino Auto Show it was purchased by Packard in the United States. It remained hidden for many years before being restored in the UK. In 2010 it appeared at the Concours de Elegance at Pebble Beach where it secured the coveted Gran Turismo Trophy. It has a fascinating story&#8230; Designed by Franco Scaglione, Nuccio Bertone and Carlo Abarth as a one-off for the 1952 Turin Motor Show, this Fiat 1500 Abarth appeared on the Fiat stand. Bertone went on to design the BAT 5, 7, and 9 based on Alfa Romeo chassis between 1953 and 1955&#8230; and what does B.A.T. stand for? Berlina Aerodinainca Technica. After arriving at Packard&#8217;s styling studio it was apparently admired by Richard Austin Smith of Fortune Magazine. Smith created a new slogan and the car was presented to Mr. Smith as &#8216;compensation&#8217; for his suggested slogan. Fortune management allowed him to keep the car and it remained in his ownership until his death. Move forward a few years and it was discovered as a &#8216;barn find&#8217; in New England.</p>
<p>And now the Abarth BAT will appear in the Classic &amp; Sports Car magazine with stunning studio photography that will show off this Abarth&#8217;s curves &#8211; the April issue will be the biggest issue in the magazine&#8217;s history with over 400 pages to celebrate their 30th Anniversary!</p>
<p>Is this the most beautiful Abarth? Abarth worked with Bertone and Pininfarina but this is possibly one of the most distinctive automobile designs ever created&#8230;</p>

<p><strong>Scion of the most celebrated and stylish of Italian dynasties, Lapo Elkann could have spent his days enjoying the fame and fortune bequeathed him by his grandfather, the legendary Fiat industrialist Gianni Agnelli. But rather than put his well-heeled feet up &#8211; and despite personal setbacks in 2005 &#8211; the entrepreneur is the driving force behind a series of high-end brand collaborations, including steering a makeover of the jewel in his family&#8217;s crown.</strong></p>

Personalisation is his calling card. Elkann is a consultant to Ferrari, on a mission to help the company&#8217;s exceptionally well-heeled clientele specify their new car in ways that would almost certainly never have occurred to them. &#8220;Luxury today has to be open to new materials and new elements. Leather is great but it&#8217;s not the only material you can use on a car interior,&#8221; he says. &#8220;There is carbon fibre, cashmere, titanium&#8230;&#8221;</p>
<p>This new service is called Ferrari Tailor-Made, and it&#8217;s available in special worldwide ateliers, including one in an annexe of London&#8217;s Berkeley hotel. Elkann, 34, will be working closely with his friend Flavio Manzoni, Ferrari&#8217;s design director, on tailoring the cars, memorabilia and other sympathetic extensions to the Ferrari brand. It comes hot on the heels of a deal he did with Gucci&#8217;s Frida Giannini for a special edition of the Fiat 500, the sort of high-octane brand collusion that doesn&#8217;t happen every day, and certainly would have been beyond Fiat a few years ago. It helps that all of this is deep in his DNA: Lapo Elkann is the grandson of legendary Italian automotive tycoon and high-roller Gianni Agnelli.</p>
<p>So it&#8217;s worth checking out his wheels. Elkann owns Maseratis and Ferraris, which he keeps elsewhere in the world, preferring to have more modest modes of transport at his newly purchased Notting Hill mews apartment. Hence the little Fiat, though with its matt-green paintwork &#8211; Italian military green &#8211; and black alloys, this particular 500 isn&#8217;t exactly flying under the radar. Inside, its seats are trimmed in a material you will never have seen on a car before: denim. Elkann loves denim. &#8220;It makes things simple,&#8221; he says. It&#8217;s strange to sit in a car interior that&#8217;s been trimmed in denim, despite the fabric being so familiar. Stranger still is the realisation that it works.</p>
<p>Lunch is in the top-floor restaurant, overlooking a rooftop pool. The sun is glinting off the water. Our waiters, it turns out, are Italian. Elkann doesn&#8217;t rival David Beckham in the tattoo stakes, but he&#8217;s not far off it. One on his forearm proclaims his devotion to Juventus and prompts our waiter to start an animated conversation about the state of Italian football. Then the chef appears, embraces him like a long-lost brother, and the conversation bubbles away furiously.</p>
<p>Elkann always had a &#8220;work hard, play hard&#8221; ethos. Now he&#8217;s all about work, and shuttles endlessly between Milan, New York and London. In January 2007, he set up Italia Independent, a fashion and design company, and his umbrella firm, LA Holding, now encompasses several separate businesses. What Elkann lacks in conventional management practice, he makes up for in sheer creativity and energy.</p>
<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m a freestyle creative entrepreneur,&#8221; he says. &#8220;Not a businessman. I like to create ventures in which creativity stands at the centre.&#8221;</p>

King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, gave his opening speech at 10:30 and I flew at 10:47 and again in the afternoon. Stunning displays were flown by the Russian Knights in the SU27 and UAE’s Al Fusan team flying the Aermacchi MB-339A. Its been a superb airshow – well worth a visit; it has been a pleasure to be part of this event and I would like to thank the organisers for their invitation and hospitality and I look forward to returning again in the future. I&#8217;ll be back in the UK soon preparing for the events and promotions for Abarth UK which will hopefully include the Silverstone Classic and a number of events specifically for the Abarth Dealer network &#8211; its going to be a busy year!&#8221;</p>

The Abarth liveried Extra 330sc was freighted in advance and then assembled, checked, inspected and test flown by Mark and his support team prior to the air show which starts on the 19th January. Mark always attracts a huge amount of publicity on his tours &#8211; this time is no exception as he secures front page news in the Gulf Daily News; Mark added, &#8220;I was fortunate to have been invited to the Fiat Group Automobiles&#8217; UK Dealer conference the day before I departed for Bahrain, had the opportunity to see some pre-launch Abarth models&#8230; the Abarth 595 is particularly special. Anyway, we have prepared well and I&#8217;m looking forward to the air show and to be flying in Abarth colours again in 2012.&#8221;</p>
<p>The second Bahrain International Airshow will return to the Kingdom on 19-21 Jan at the Sakhir Airbase and is fast becoming recognised as one of the best air shows in the region. Building on the success of the 2010 event, the Airshow will once again captivate a massive audience with its diverse flying displays and ground attractions. The Bahrain International Airshow attracts any age group, has something for everyone and promises to be a great event.</p>

<p>I went out to train yesterday [22nd January 2012] because Hayling Island (where I sail) looked a lot like the conditions we will get at lake Garda in August, and that&#8217;s where I will compete in order to try to win my third World Title. The main difference between the two places was the cold! You can loose as much as 25% of your body heat through your head and when I lost my hat as the boat generated a ball of spray that hit me square in the face an hour into the training session, it got a bit mission critical on the comfort front! Still, it was good practice and my GPS told me I hit 28.3 knots of boat speed, which is faster than I&#8217;ve ever gone in a Moth! This is a good sign that things are going well on the speed front, and despite the extra layers you have to wear in cold weather I was tacking well too. I hope this is as a result of the leg work I&#8217;ve been doing in the gym. Garda with its right hand side favoured course will mean lots of tacking! Still lots more to do but some good take homes from yesterday!</p>

Training is everything now and regardless of the chilly weather (its generally quite mild for the time of year) I have to get out on the water&#8230; injury free, getting fitter all the time and the Moth is fast so its all going to plan so far. I&#8217;ll be posting blogs regularly in the build up to the World Championships so please keep an eye out for progress and updates.</p>
<p><strong>Australien</strong> - I survived the January sales by digitally watching the Australian Nationals and the Miami Moth event. The Australian Nationals especially seemed from another planet, (Australien geddit?) where rain, cold and massive waves sorted the hommes from the garçons. Most of the time we sail in flatish waters, with only the UK Nationals, and now the Australian ones being an exception, and the results of last week prove that these days preparation must be event specific if you are to do any good. Anyway well done Rob Gough for taking the event. In Miami it was different, with a relaxez -vous race style sailed in light winds and blue skies. Anthony Kouton using the new Mach2 front foil seemed to be first up, closely followed by Brad Funk.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s cold outside averaging 2 to about 4 degrees(ish), and the harbour weather station is saying 20 knots. It&#8217;s an easterly wind so just getting off the beach could be a problem, especially at my height. Still, its a good time to sail in Chichester harbour, made more bearable by the heated floor in the changing rooms! Last week I was at the Fiat Group Automobiles Dealer Conference with Abarth. The new cars look fabulous&#8230; there&#8217;s a new 595 Abarth and I had a sneak preview of a very trick Abarth Evo! Anyway better go, if I hang around here too long, I&#8217;ll find a reason to stay inside&#8230;</p>

<p>Cars and design, fashion, art and style have always gone hand-in-hand&#8230; a good example is the Fiat 500 Gucci. Abarth have had close relationships in the past with some of the biggest names in motor racing and automotive design; best known are Fiat and Porsche but there is another iconic design house that produced some of the most stylish cars ever to be designed&#8230; Pininfarina.</p>

Founded in 1930 by designer Battista &#8216;Pinin&#8217; Farina; Pininfarina has been involved with many automobile design projects for brands including Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa Romeo and Lancia.</p>
<p><a href="http://abarthcarsuk.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/1961_Pininfarina_Abarth_1000_Record_Car_01.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-2850" title="1961 Pininfarina Abarth 1000 RecordCar" src="http://abarthcarsuk.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/1961_Pininfarina_Abarth_1000_Record_Car_01-300x200.jpg" alt="1961 Pininfarina Abarth 1000 RecordCar" width="300" height="200" /></a>Following the second World War, Pininfarina&#8217;s work on the Cisitalia 202 had identified him as a talent. Cisitalia was a small Italian sports and racing car constructor. &#8216;Cisitalia&#8217; &#8211; Compagnia Industriale Sportive Italia &#8211; was founded in Turin in 1946 and controlled by Piero Dusio. Early success led to a project that would signal the end; Ferdinand Porsche was commissioned to design and construct a Grand Prix car which became the Cisitalia 360. The Cisitalia 202 &#8211; Dusio commissioned several automobiles from Europe&#8217;s leading designers including &#8216;Pinin&#8217; Farina. The 202 body was made of aluminium panels and virtually hand made &#8211; only 170 models were produced. <a href="http://abarthcarsuk.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/cisitalia-202.jpg"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-2853" title="cisitalia 202" src="http://abarthcarsuk.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/cisitalia-202-300x259.jpg" alt="cisitalia 202" width="300" height="259" /></a>The Cisitalia 202 GT was an aesthetic and technical achievement that transformed postwar automobile body design. The extraordinary Pinin Farina design was honoured by the New York Museum of Modern Art in 1951. The Cisitalia 202 appeared in the video game L.A. Noire by Rockstar Games and Team Bondi as a secret car called the Cisitalia Coupe. Since the 202 never made large scale production and all the cars were handmade, the small talented group at Cisitalia, including Carlo Abarth, Dante Giacosa and Giovanni Savonuzzi, made several variants of the 202. Of the more important versions, the SMM Nuvolari Spider was built and named after a class victory at the 1947 Mille Miglia. Unfortunately, due to the expense of the mid-engine, four wheel drive formula one car designed by Ferdinand Porsche, Cisitalia went into receivership in 1949 and was sold in 1952. In total, around 200 cars were made which made a large impact on later marques including Abarth&#8217;s range of cars.</p>

<p><a href="http://abarthcarsuk.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Screen-Shot-2011-12-05-at-09.25.23.png"><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-2715" title="abarth 500 rally" src="http://abarthcarsuk.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Screen-Shot-2011-12-05-at-09.25.23-300x207.png" alt="abarth 500 rally" width="300" height="207" /></a>Rally: the Trofeo Abarth 500 Rally will be an international program with a seven race calendar in Italy, France, Switzerland and Belgium: 1000 Miglia Rally (Italy, 19-21 April), Tour de Corse (France, 11-13 May), Rally du Chablais (Switzerland, 8-10 June), Ypres Rally (Belgium, 22-24 June), San Martino di Castrozza (Italy, 14-15 September), Sanremo (Italy, 12-13 October) and Rally du Valais (Switzerland, 25-27 October).</p>
<p>Three championships will be on track: the Europe Abarth 500 Trophy, the Italy Abarth 500 Trophy and the new Abarth 500 Trophy Benelux &#8211; each with six races &#8211; the Europe Abarth 500 Trophy calendar includes Dijon (France, 6 May), Mugello (Italy, 10 June), A1 Ring (Austria, 5 August), Imola (Italy, 2 September), Spa (Belgium, 16 September) and Monza (Italy, 21 October). The new Benelux Abarth 500 Trophy will visit Dijon (France, 6 May), Zandvoort (Netherlands, 3 June), Spa (Belgium, 8 July), Colmar-Berg (France, 22 July), Spa (Belgium, 16 September) and Zolder (Belgium, 7 October).</p>
<p>Rallying has been important to Abarth for many years and &#8216;the Scorpion&#8217; has scored victories on many of the same events over the years. Two rally events carry a special magic, the San Remo and the Tour de Corse; both tarmac rallies.</p>

It was part of the World Rally Championship from the 1973 season to 2008 and is known as the &#8220;Ten Thousand Turns Rally&#8221; because of the twisty mountain roads. Two drivers have won the event six times; Bernard Darniche (1970, 1975, 1977 &#8211; Fiat 131 Abarth, 1978 &#8211; Fiat 131 Abarth, 1979 and 1981) and Didier Auriol (1988, 1989, 1990, 1992, 1994, 1995) &#8211; three times in Abarth prepared Lancia.</p>
<p><a href="http://abarthcarsuk.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Basso-san-remo-abarth.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-2713" title="Basso-san remo- abarth" src="http://abarthcarsuk.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Basso-san-remo-abarth-300x198.jpg" alt="Basso-san remo- abarth" width="300" height="198" /></a>The first &#8220;Rallye Internazionale di San Remo&#8221; was held in 1928. The rally name&#8217;s French word &#8220;rallye&#8221;, as opposed to Italian &#8220;rally&#8221;, was inspired by Rallye Automobile Monte Carlo. Rallye San Remo was originally run on tarmac and gravel but from 1997 it has been an all-tarmac rally. Having been on the WRC schedule for many years, Rallye San Remo has been part of the Italian Rally Championship and since 2006, it has been a round of the IRC Intercontinental Rally Challenge. The last time an Abarth won the event was in 2008 on the historic 50th Rallye Sanremo with Giandomenico Basso driving an Abarth Grande Punto S2000 to victory.</p>
