1952 Abarth 1500 Biposto Bertone B.A.T.
On this episode of Jay Leno’s Garage; Jay visits Pebble Beach to look at this one-of-a-kind B.A.T. car – the Abarth 1500 Biposto Bertone, which won the Gran Turismo Trophy. It was the first in a series of experimental aerodynamic coupes built in 1952 by Bertone.
At the 60th “Pebble Beach Concours de Elegance” the 1952 Abarth 1500 Biposto Bertone B.A.T. 1 was selected as the winner of the “Gran Turismo Trophy”. The “BAT” series of cars was designed by Bertone, B.A.T. stands for Berlinetta Aerodinamica Tecnica, this Abarth 1500 Biposto is very important; the first of the series. Designed by Franco Scaglione at Bertone and carrying the Abarth Scorpion badge it was the only Abarth 1500 Biposto manufactured, exhibited at the 1952 Torino Auto Show. The car was restored by Chris Drake from the UK and featured on the popular Jay Leno’s Garage TV show.
